Earthquake response of embankment resting on liquefiable soil with different mitigation models

چکیده

Three different liquefaction mitigation techniques for an earthen embankment resting on saturated loose cohesionless soil have been compared in the present study as densification of foundation soil, stone column mitigation, and hybrid pile-stone mitigation. Numerical modelling has done using finite element assuming plane strain condition. Liquefaction behaviour modelled effective stress-based elasto-plastic UBC3D-PLM model. All three models along with benchmark model analysed under 25 real ground motions. The maximum crest settlement occurred Imperial Valley (1979) motion having Arias Intensity. excess pore pressure ratio zone below toe found to be increasing Intensity In case region toe, mitigated away from towards free field liquefies. reduces more efficiently beneath than other two techniques. a combination gravel drainage pile reduce well shear-induced post-shaking due rapid dissipation soil.

Intelligent Compaction Control of Highway Embankment Soil

Mechanistic pavement design procedures based on elastic layer theory require characterization of all pavement layer materials including subgrade soil. This paper discusses the subgrade stiffness obtained from a new compaction device called the Intelligent Compaction (IC) roller on highway embankment projects in Kansas. Three test sections on two routes were compacted using a single, smooth stee...

analysis of earthquake response of an asphalt concrete core embankment dam

seismic behavior of a rockfill dam with asphalt-concrete core has been studied utilizing numerical models with material parameters determined by laboratory tests. the case study selected for these analyses, is the meyjaran asphalt core dam, recently constructed in northern iran, with 60 m height and 180 m crest length. the numerical analyses have been performed using a nonlinear three dimension...

Pushover Analysis of Piles in Stratified Soil

Pile foundations have been the subject of interest for earthquake engineers since last several decades. The devastations caused in major earthquakes of the world can be the reason enough to carry out the research on the topic of seismic behavior of piles. One definite concern is liquefaction induced ground movement after the shaking in an earthquake, causing extra lateral loads acting on piles....

Dynamic Response of Multi-cracked Beams Resting on Elastic Foundation

Cracks cause to change dynamic response of beams and make discontinuity in slope of the deflection of the beams. The dynamic analysis of the Euler-Bernoulli cracked beam on the elastic foundation subjected to the concentrated load is presented in this paper. The stiffness of the elastic foundation and elastic supports influence on vibrational characteristics of the cracked beam. The Dynamic Gre...
